Local 1861 Floor of the Year Contest

In October 2004 all members, active, retired and contracting members of LU 1861 received notification of the Floor of the Year Contest. Criteria and materials were supplied by the local. The purpose was to have members compete and show their skill in the hardwood floor industry. Prize money of 1st place $500.00, 2nd Place $300.00 and 3rd place 200.00 was the reward. 21 members participated in the contest submitting their floor panels to the local by January 3, 2005.

The judges were Bobby Alvarado, EST of the NCCRC, Jill Tracy, Membership Advocate CFAO, and Rigo Laguardia, SFR Local 217 & 1861. They thoroughly looked at craftsmanship, design and overall appearance and chose the winners. 1st Place $500.00 goes to Ricky Solis who works for Stuart Floor Company. 2nd Place $300.00 goes to Safet Sabanovic, who works for Silverado Floors, and 3rd Place $200.00 goes to Angelina Arias, who works for H Y Floors.
